For more than two decades, Tony has built a reputation as a trusted trial lawyer with extensive experience in family law, criminal defense, and civil disputes involving contracts and property. His admission to the partnership marks an important milestone, both in his career and in the continued growth of Rudman Winchell as a leading Maine law firm serving individuals, families, and businesses across the state.

Meet Anthony A. Trask: A Career Defined by Trial Experience and Client Advocacy

Anthony A. Trask

Tony brings more than twenty years of trial experience to the Rudman Winchell partnership. His practice is grounded in careful preparation, clear communication, and a deep understanding of Maine law. Clients value his ability to navigate complex and often highly personal legal matters with professionalism, discretion, and steady guidance.

While Tony’s work frequently focuses on family law and criminal defense, he is also well known for handling disputes involving contracts and property. His broad litigation background allows him to approach cases with a practical mindset and a strong command of courtroom advocacy. Whether representing individuals in family law proceedings or defending clients in criminal matters, Tony’s focus remains the same: protecting his clients’ interests while guiding them through challenging legal situations.

A Truly Statewide Maine Practice

Although Tony spends much of his time working in central and eastern Maine, his practice is truly statewide. Over the course of his career, he has handled cases in all sixteen Maine counties, an experience that has given him valuable insight into the nuances of courts and communities throughout the state.

As court proceedings increasingly utilize telephone and video conferencing, Tony continues to serve clients wherever they are located. This statewide reach aligns with Rudman Winchell’s mission to provide accessible, high quality legal representation to clients across Maine, not just in major population centers.

Tony’s ability to work effectively throughout the state has made him a trusted resource for clients seeking consistent, reliable legal counsel regardless of geography.

Leadership in Family Law and the Legal Profession

Beyond his work with clients, Tony has made meaningful contributions to the development of family law in Maine. His experience and expertise led to his selection by Maine’s Supreme Court to serve on committees tasked with examining and improving the state’s family law system.

Tony served on the 2013 Family Division Task Force and later on the 2019 Advisory Committee on the Maine Family Rules. These roles placed him at the center of important discussions shaping how family law matters are handled in Maine courts, reinforcing his reputation as a thoughtful and respected voice in the legal community.

Tony also plays an active role in legal education. He is a recurring faculty member at the Maine State Bar Association Family Law Institute, where he shares practical insight and experience with fellow attorneys. In addition, he has authored articles on a wide range of family law topics, including divorce, child custody, alimony, child support, de facto parenthood, and grandparents’ rights.

Commitment to the Legal Community and Professional Well Being

Tony’s service to the profession extends beyond practice and scholarship. For more than a decade, he has served as a commissioner and now serves as chair of the Maine Assistance Program for Lawyers and Judges, an organization dedicated to confidentially assisting members of the legal profession who are dealing with alcoholism, substance abuse, or mental and emotional challenges.

This work reflects Tony’s deep commitment to the well being of his colleagues and to maintaining the integrity of the legal profession. His involvement with MAP demonstrates leadership grounded not only in legal skill, but also in compassion and responsibility.

Tony is an active member of several professional organizations, including the Maine Trial Lawyers Association, the Maine State Bar Association, the Penobscot County Bar Association, the Aroostook County Bar Association, and the John Waldo Ballou Inn of Court.

A Diverse Legal Background Built on Maine Roots

Tony was born and raised in Maine. As the son of a game warden, he spent his early years living in many corners of the state before his family settled in central Maine. This upbringing fostered a strong connection to Maine’s communities and people, a connection that continues to shape his approach to practicing law.

He earned his undergraduate degree in broadcast journalism from the University of Maine, a background that contributes to his clear communication style and effective courtroom advocacy. Tony went on to earn his law degree from Suffolk University in 1995.

After law school, Tony spent nearly a decade in Boston litigating civil matters in Massachusetts state and federal courts. In 2004, he returned to Maine to practice with his brother at Currier & Trask, where he handled trial and appellate work. In early 2011, Tony joined Rudman Winchell, bringing with him a broad range of litigation experience and a strong commitment to serving Maine clients.

A Well Earned Step Forward

Tony’s invitation to the Rudman Winchell partnership recognizes not only his legal accomplishments, but also his professionalism, judgment, and dedication to clients and colleagues alike. His approach to practicing law reflects the firm’s longstanding values of integrity, excellence, and service.

As a partner, Tony will continue to play an important role in shaping the firm’s future, mentoring colleagues, and delivering high quality legal representation across his practice areas.

Outside of work, Tony enjoys distance running and hiking Maine’s mountains with his wife, Jacinda. Above all, he values time with his children, Tyler, Brooke, Paige, and Tatum.

Looking Ahead

Rudman Winchell is proud to welcome Anthony A. Trask to the partnership and looks forward to his continued leadership and contributions. His experience, statewide perspective, and dedication to the legal profession strengthen the firm’s ability to serve clients throughout Maine.

Please join us in congratulating Tony on this well earned achievement.
