We are delighted to announce that Stephen Wagner, a seasoned attorney known for his unwavering dedication and expertise in municipal and land use law, is taking a significant step in his career. Effective January 1, 2024, Stephen will become a partner at Rudman Winchell, where he will continue to contribute his wealth of experience and client-focused approach to our Municipal and Land Use practice.
Stephen’s path to partnership at Rudman Winchell has been marked by a passion for environmental and land use law. His undergraduate studies in environmental policy laid the groundwork for a career deeply aligned with his values and aspirations. Originally from Connecticut, Stephen’s commitment to environmental causes led him to Maine, where he has firmly rooted his legal career.
Stephen pursued his law degree at the University of Maine School of Law, graduating magna cum laude in 2015. During his time in law school, he earned accolades such as the Outstanding Scholastic Achievement Award in Environmental Law, served as the Articles Editor of the Ocean and Coastal Law Journal, and received the prestigious 2014 Shur-Frinsko Award for Municipal Law and Local Government.
Following law school, Stephen clerked with the Maine Superior Court in Bangor, after which he entered private practice. His proficiency spans municipal, land use, and environmental law, encompassing areas such as land use appeals, interlocal agreements, tax increment financing, and economic development initiatives. Stephen has consistently delivered successful representation for both private and public clients before local and state administrative boards, trial courts, and appellate courts.
Stephen’s approach to client representation is characterized by his profound understanding of his clients’ unique needs and objectives. Instead of merely reacting to legal challenges, he collaborates with all stakeholders to craft enduring solutions that address the underlying issues driving conflicts. His ability to maintain composure and respect in the often turbulent and high-stress environment of local government disputes has earned him the respect of both clients and opposing counsel.
While Stephen’s legal career is impressive, his interests extend far beyond the courtroom. His interests include travel, family time, and a love for paddling. Stephen is deeply involved in the world of food, thanks in part to his marriage into a family of restaurateurs. He and his wife frequently host unforgettable dinner gatherings that showcase their commitment to community and camaraderie. Additionally, Stephen is known for his skills as a gardener, bread baker, and fermentation enthusiast.
Rudman Winchell has gained a talented and accomplished partner who embodies the values of excellence, dedication, and a deep commitment to clients. We look forward to the exciting future that lies ahead with Stephen as part of our partnership team.
