Alex Drew Weatherbee

Alex Drew Weatherbee is an emerging land use and municipal law attorney whose practice is informed by a deep background in climate policy, natural resource management, and community-focused problem solving. Alex brings multidisciplinary research experience, strong legal writing skills, and a practical understanding of the regulatory framework to every matter she handles.

While a student at Maine Law, Alex was selected as an Arctic Law Fellow. She studied Arctic environmental law and policy and joined a multidisciplinary team conducting field research in Greenland. Alex also externed for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit in the Chambers of Judge Kermit Lipez, where she gained experience analyzing complex appellate issues. Additionally, Alex was an adjunct professor at the University of Southern Maine. Working with a team of law students and experienced law professors, she developed and co-taught an undergraduate environmental law and policy course after completing an intensive environmental law teaching seminar.

Alex also served as a Staff editor for the Ocean and Coastal Law Journal and competed in the McGee Civil Rights Moot Court Competition and the National Environmental Law Moot Court Competition.

Prior to entering law school, Alex built a career spanning environmental consulting, outdoor-industry advocacy, sustainability management, and nonprofit programming. This work included preparing state and federal permitting materials for solar development, conducting wetland assessments, promoting economic development by creating outdoor recreation areas, and designing sustainability strategies for a major ski resort. Across these roles, Alex cultivated expertise in regulatory compliance, land use policy, stakeholder engagement, and community-centered project development, all experiences that she brings into her practice today.

Alex currently sits on the Board of Granite Backcountry Alliance, where she works to create backcountry ski and snowboard zones that are free and open to the public through public and private landowner partnerships.

Alex lives in the Bangor area with her husband. They spend most weekends traveling around New England in their camper van, seeking out skiing, mountain biking, and whitewater rafting adventures.

Drawing on both legal training and hands-on environmental experience, Alex is committed to helping clients navigate the evolving landscapes of land use policy and municipal law to craft creative, effective, and sustainable solutions.
